Ahhh… the sweet life!
At least, it started out that way. We hooked up the RV and were on the road by eight o’clock yesterday. It was a beautiful crisp and sunny morning in Russellville Arkanasas, and there we sat in the comfy heated seats in our truck, sipping ice cold cokes and munching on specialty chocolates that Jim’s parents send us every year for Christmas. Yep, you heard me, coke and chocolate. It’s not just for dessert anymore!
As the miles slipped away and we got further north, the skies turned gray and dismal, and by the time we passed through Lake of the Ozarks it was snowing. Fortunately the roads were warm and it didn’t get slippery, but we drove through snow for the next few hours until we reached Columbia Missouri, where we pulled into Cottonwoods RV Park. I’m not sure why this park gets such a high rating… we’ve stayed here before (it’s the only RV Park in Columbia). The sites are really hard to get into, because the “big rig” sites are closed in the winter, and the remaining sites are big enough for a long RV, but not for parking a vehicle as well, so people leave the rear end of their RV sticking out into the road so they can park in front of it. When large units like ours try and make the corners, we come perilously close to running into them!
We parked, I set about setting up inside while Jim handled the outside stuff. The furnace works well and it was toasty warm in here in no time, despite of the snow and cold outside. But our freshly serviced RV came back with some new problems. Our toilet flushes once again, but the fittings on the back are now broke (ahem!) and if you flush, water sprays down the wall and all over the floor. One of the water lines in the basement also cracked, and we now have a steady drip, drip drip.
But the best part… (MERRY CHRISTMAS JIM AND CJ!) is that our newly repaired hot water heater…. well it doesn’t heat water. Not on gas or electric. The water running into the RV is about 20 degrees. OH JOY!
Still, we are warm and dry, and I have coffee. I’ll cook us a hot breakfast, and we’ll go brave the RV bath house, where we’ll likely pick up Athlete’s Foot to start off our New Year. Thongs? Of course we don’t pack them, we have our own shower!
LOLOLOLOLOL

Merry Christmas………………..
It can only get better.
Think “PRESENTS”
Poor CJ! You’ll have Christmas adventures to chat about for years to come. Hope you have a great Christmas in spite of it all. Build a snowman.
Sounds like my kind of trip!! If it isn’t one thing its another! Least it is not the furnace going out thank goodness.
Be safe!!!
Take care have a Happy Christmas, stay warm and brace yourself for the cold shower. Remind yourself they are supposed to be healthy at any age!
Only joking. I am sure things can only get better. Lovely for the update. Will be thinking of you this Christmas. We have snow and it stayed on the ground in our field overnight. That is great. I may even be able to wear one of my two pairs of snow boots if this keeps up. Of course, Jersey closed down in the snow, airport closed….buses not running. We did not even have six inches, just a light covering. Ha Ha!
I guess you don’t want to hear about the 70 degree weather here in Phoenix!
Are you thinking about that new RV you almost purchased?
Merry Christmas. You are in the right place…spending it with loved ones.
Get thee to an Old Navy for their $4 flip flops………claudia
snicker and choke.
I have had trips like that. LOL. Where if you didn’t find the funny side of things, you would break down and be a sobbing puddle of uselessness. LOL. It’s what makes the great stories to blog about though. Merry Christmas and Peace
Well, I guess we know where that RV will be going back to after Christmas, don’t we?? I sure hope the water is actually turned on in the bath house, or you sure won’t need those flip-flops. It sounds like a typical trip to me, what can go wrong will….even if it was supposed to be fixed before you left. Have a Merry Christmas and just enjoy being together with family.
You drove thru my neck of the woods yesterday and are currently only 40 min away from me. Hope things fix themselves magically or that you just have a grand ole time anyway.
CJ,
Sorry to hear you are having issues with the RV. Regarding the hot water heater, often when serviced, the WH bypass is on and the service crew does not reset. Might want to check!!! Stay warm
Enjoy time with your family.
Merry Christmas!
Have a wonderful holiday and remember there are Holiday Inns everywhere…..
Boy CJ, I sure would miss the hot water. But . . . it’s a good thing you are warm. I might forego the shower for a day if I had to. Are you staying there a few days or hitting the road again tomorrow?
A grand adventure for sure! Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year CJ.
Vail
I will keep you in mind for a safe trip…I guess pleasant went out the window. You might want to call a Hampton and see if there is room at the Inn….LOL!
Merry Christmas.
I hope you and Jim have a great Christmas despite the problems.
This story will give you a good laugh!
Years ago we were camping with some friends in 2 trailers and our friend wanted to empty the sewage holding tank on his trailer. My husband went to the dump site with him but the guys discovered that the lever to open the valve was broken off so they could not open it the way it SHOULD have been done- using the hose etc.
So they had to take the whole valve off—thus sending you-know-what out everywhere.
Not only was that bad enough but there were a bunch of old guys across the way watching and LTAO at the “idiots” who didn’t know how to empty the tank. (or so it looked)
Talk about embarrassing moments!!!!!!
Always remember—you could have worse problems.
