The ant and the grasshopper…

November23

This one is a little different… Two Different Versions…. Two Different Morals

OLD VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away..

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green.’

ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, “We shall overcome.” Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper’s sake.

President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper’s plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn’t maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010!

I think we should ALL quit our jobs and live like the grasshopper for a couple of years and let the government see how well they do when we’re all stop paying “our fair share”. Maybe then they would appreciate us working folks. Great blog post, CJ!

I have to admit, CJ, I haven’t enjoyed a post as much as this one in quite some time.

Question: And why do we work?

I hope you don’t mind if I share this with hubby and colleagues.

Okay, I really do know not to get involved in political discussions. But this hardworking democrat finds this whole discussion despicable.
I have no use for freeloaders or people who take advantage of the system and who don’t pull their weight and expect others to take care of them.
There’s more than enough blame to go around for all political parties!

I hope we get to vote!

If you watched the American Music awards, it gives you an insight as to the depravity and moral decay our wonderful nation is/has been experiencing. I fear there’s a LOT more than political decay. Our children have been growing up in homes that have no boundaries. Our churches (which our nation was started for) have seen their congregations decline to the point the buildings are being sold. There’s just such a complexity to the problem I’m not sure we’ve buried ourselves too deep now. We’re in the 3rd and 4th generation of “intitled mentality” and they’ve learned all too well how to milk the system. Now the politicians are using them as “ballots” to further their own agenda. Where will this all end up? I’m just glad I’m no longer in mega city and now live a peaceful life in the country. It feels safer. PS Is there really anyone to vote for??????

  11. On November 24th, 2009 at 4:25 pm Sandy Says:

Our country has big problems: war, economy, health, debt, etc. I
WISH that the politicians would work together to solve them rather than be on a power trip. Politics is all about who has the power.
Anyway, check out the Christmas puppies collection on OESD. Oh my, they are so cute!

Amen!! I fear that is exactly where we are headed in this country. Those of us who have worked very hard all of our lives fear that “big brother” is going to come in and take it all away. Hope they don’t try it in Texas because we WILL fight back.

I’ve seen this tale before, I see it has been updated, again. Good post.

I have been getting more active in politics – actually went to a townhall meeting during the summer. Everyone was polite and we actually started off with the Scouts presenting the colors, saying the pledge and a prayer. There is nothing wrong with speaking your mind or talking to your reps and telling them your opinions if they differ or even agree.

I suspect that your dissenter (D) would actually be voting for an (I) or an (R) if she compared her values to the values of the people who she votes for.

The key for 2010 and beyond is to help getting good people at the lower levels of government – city, county, state. Build up from the bottom so we will have good people to move up to the federal level.
