Someone’s ready for a ride!

November22

img_0022I’m never quite sure how the dogs know when we’re taking a trip, but boy they get so excited!  Bellen and Tanzer raced around the truck and the RV like crazy before hopping into the back seat of the pickup.  They know they get to eat “junk food” when we hit the road, we always swing through McDonald’s and Bellen gets 3 plain hamburgers, and Tanzer gets 1.  Really, really bad for them I know, but they think it’s the bomb!

After we dropped the RV off at Bison Campers to be repaired, we headed over to the Excel dealer.  He only had one Limited 5th wheel on the lot, but lo and behold, in the service bay waiting for its new owners to do a final inspection, was a 35TKE, exactly the floor plan we’d buy if we choose Excel.  Gorgeous!  Jim and I liked it a lot, and the fiberglass roof versus a rubber roof really has us leaning the Excel direction.  It’s also a foot shorter than the Hitchhiker Champagne model we like, and three feet shorter than our current unit.  I’m not real sure about the weight of the unit only having tandem axles however.

img_0080Yesterday we went to pick up Jim’s new air compressor.  Boy do we need a pallet fork for our tractor!  This sucker weighs around 500lbs, and Jim strapped it to the bucket on the front end loader, and I very carefully lifted it off the truck and drove it into the shop… and I didn’t whack the truck once!  Hehe

The eight yards of charcoal fleece I ordered arrived yesterday.  Jim forgot his bathrobe in the hotel when he was in New Orleans, and I spilled a bit of bleach on mine, so I’m going to make us matching robes… hopefully I’ll get them done next week.

Bison Campers estimated two weeks to repair our 5th wheel, when we bring it back home that just gives us a week or so to redo the shower… which is in pieces in the shop as Jim took it out and completely disassembled it and is resealing all the glass back into the frame.  We’ll be heading out to visit our families over the holidays, and will be staying in the RV.

So what are you thinking, are you going to go with the Excel?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with lots of love and laughter! (((hugs)))

Amazing isn’t it Cindy? And they know the difference too, if it’s a day trip, an RV trip… I swear they do!

Julia, thank you, she is a wonderful old girl. Hard to believe she was 9 years old this year.

Leaning towards the Excel yes… first we have to wait and see what our tax bill is going to be this year… and I’m also a bit concerned about the Cap and Trade bill passing… boy won’t that hike gas prices!

I haven’t heard anything bad about them Jeanette, they make a great unit, although the Hitchhikers seem to have a more loyal following.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Just back from spending a weekend at our 5th wheel on coast of CA. it’s a NuWa built in 1983 and we’re not the 1st owners but it was taken care of since it’s existed. After looking at your sites with the new rigs looked at it with different eyes this trip. Still like some of the new units, would be nice if it had expando units but it doesn’t and for the two of us AND IT’S PAID FOR so I think we’ll manage. But, pointed out where we could add a plasma tv and not have to setup the tv each time we go to the trailer. Got my husband thinking though about replacing the couch – just doesn’t seem comfy anymore. Mysteriously this time we couldn’t get the refrig to work so now envisioning a replacement unit. I also planted the seed to have the microwave built in above the stove – maybe a unit with a hood exhast. We never use the stove but the microwave from time to time. Not worth buying a new 5th wheel for the few things! Oh, and I spent most of my time this trip sewing new curtains and sheers with my 630. Of course as I was sewing in my mind I’m thinking why not removing the dining seats and tables and put in a sewing work area. That’s what I use the area for when we’re there anyway! Oh well, there’s no place like home and I’m enjoying having power for my laptop right now- left my power cord at home this trip!

    Thanks Kim, happy Thanksgiving!

Becky, if our unit was as well built as a NUWA, we wouldn’t consider replacing it either! Unfortunately it’s not, and it doesn’t do well in extreme climates, without a WHOLE lot of work on my part… like drying the walls all day long during the winter…. :)

Paid for is the only way to go!
