Snow, soup, sleep… whatever

November17

It’s chilly today!  We had a chance of snow flurries this morning but it didn’t get quite that cold, but it’s cloudy and sure looks like it could snow!

A perfect soup day.  I have a new soup recipe I want to try, I’d picked up some plain Greek style yogurt, and there is a recipe on the container for a shrimp, salmon and potato chowder that sounds outstanding, so I’m going to try it today.  If it’s good, I’ll post it.

I think I’ll make some banana nut bread as well, that just sounds really yummy to me today.

I haven’t been sleeping again.  I make it until about 1 or 2 in the morning, and that’s it.  I finally asked Jim to stop and pick me up some sleeping pills.  I’ve never in my life taken any, but I am getting desperate for sleep, and I’m ready to try anything!  I figure if I could just get 2 or 3 nights of full sleep, my body will realize what it’s supposed to be doing!

Today I’m finishing up sewing the tie backs for the curtains in the RV.  I decided not to redo all the downstairs lambrequins, instead I stripped off the fabric that I’d covered the original stuff with, and now it’s back to the original.  LOL  But I’d thrown away the curtain part and tie backs, and had replaced those with lace curtains.  They’ll look okay… I’m not overly worried about it.

Last year I’d ordered a Dyson Ball vacuum, and I absolutely love it.  So much so, that I decided to put it out in the RV because of the maneuverability of the ball, and order the full size Animal version for the house.  These are the best vacuums!

I feel your frustration about the sleeping. I went through 2 yrs of horrible sleeping issues. It has a huge affect on my fibromyalgia & arthritis. I have been taking a small amount of Ambien when the doctor finally agreed to prescribe it. It has helped so much, especially if I am away from my own bed. Traveling got to be dreaded, because I knew I wouldn’t sleep. Good luck with whatever you take.

Good to hear about the dyson. Is it very heavy to lift, etc?

CJ, Get your butt to the doctor!!! Seems you have had too many problems lately with sleeping and or not feeling well, there could be something going on inside and you should get checked out before heading out in the RV.

    Just worried about ya!

Beckie, I feel the same way about traveling (outside the RV) because I can’t sleep either. I used to enjoy visits to my parents, but now I’d just be miserable and probably keep my mom awake too.

Jamie, I’m not wasting my time with a doctor. They are so inept anymore it’s not even funny. I can’t decide if they simply no longer train them to use common sense, or if insurance and lawsuits have their hands tied to the point of being totally helpless, but I’m not spending thousands and thousand of dollars for silly tests that are totally unnecessary. It’s just menopause, kicking my butt.

    CJ,

It is no wonder you are not sleeping with all that is going on in your life right now!!
I have trouble sleeping every now and again–more often lately. I take Tylenol PM tablets and they work great. My doctor said they are 100% safe to take. They use to be in a oblong shape that I could cut in half but the new bottle is a big round thing that doesn’t cut so nice.

When I get desperate for sleep I take one tablet about an hour before bedtime. It not only helps me get to sleep, but lets me sleep all night.
I would prefer to take a half and will look at the drugstore next time to see if they come in different forms. I never have any “morning after” effects from the drug.
I took Ambient a few (4-5) years ago and didn’t like how I felt the next day.
So for now I will stick with the OTC sleeping pills

I have to tell you a funny story!
A relative of mine who will remain unnamed has BIG sleeping problems and has Rx Ambient. A few months ago he took a pill, when to sleep and the next day on his computer was a message from Amazon thanking him for ordering a Kindle!
Turns out he got out of bed, went on the computer in the middle of the night and ordered the Kindle-which he did not want (I do, but that is another story!!) So of course he returned it when it arrived.
I have heard other stories on TV about people doing strange things while taking that drug but I never really knew anyone until now.
I will stick to the OTC ones, thank you!!!

CJ you got that right on the DRs. i just had 2 bouts at the ER w/IBS. They said I had a “virus”. I don’t think so Sam. Nothing was mentioned about IBS. Charged $4500 for 2 hrs. and 1 IV at ER. I had to do that 2 times and they still couldn’t tell me what was wrong. They said if I continued having “issues” come back and they’d give me another IV. Right. Now I’ll self medicate and am doing much better. I think the pharmaceuticals own our medical system and it’s going to get much worse now that people can’t/won’t buy insurance.

LOL Gram! How hilarious! And I even asked Jim if he’d ever had a sleeping pill, as I wondered about what I might do during the night too! I got OTC ones, but I didn’t know Tylenol made something mild, if these make me ill I’ll give that a whirl.

Hilary, is that just AWFUL or what? I think that’s so typical of medical treatment today! It’s an outrage! I’m not against healthcare, honestly I’m not. I’d love to have a few issues taken care of. But what you just described is what I get… every time. It’s positively appalling! I do hope you are feeling better!

I’ve had a prescription for Ambien for years. I cut the pills in half and only take one when I’ve gone through a bout of sleeplessness. I never have trouble falling asleep; but, like you, often wake up at 2 or 2:30 and that’s it for the night. Put two or three or four nights like that together, and the days become pretty “cloudy” and nonproductive. That’s when I know I need a sleeping pill to break the cycle. Not only is persistent insomnia a pain in the neck, it is also dangerous when you’re driving an 830!!!!

I just wanted to mention that I also suffer from insomnia (menopause related also), so I started taking Tylenol PM. (Sometimes I just take one, sometimes 2, and sometimes I actually bite one in half–sounds strange but it’s really easy and not distasteful at all). My doctor also said this is not harmful at all, but he suggested that if I don’t have any pain to treat, that instead of taking Tylenol PM, to take Benadryl, because it’s the same medication that’s in the Tylenol, minus the pain reliever.

I feel for you, girl, and must say that I am a little surprised that you don’t sleep like a baby. Just reading your blog and about your really active life makes me tired!

Good luck, take care, and love your blog…

Tylenol PM Sleep Aid does work well. It says you can take two but one is all I need to sleep all night. I don’t take it very often but it does work well for me.

  10. On November 17th, 2009 at 6:29 pm CJ Says:

Wow… I had no idea insomnia was so common! I don’t feel so guilty now, caving to the temptation of a sleep aid! But I think next time I go to the store I’ll pick up some Tylenol PM and try it… for tonight, I’m hoping whatever brand it was Jim picked up doesn’t make me feel sick tomorrow.

Marsha, I never have any problem either, falling right to sleep. Practically the minute my head hits the pillow I’m out! I just can’t stay that way! :)

CJ……Benadryl absolutely does work wonders, but I use the Equate brand..the very same ingredients as Benadryl and cheaper. One does the trick about 30 minutes before bed. A lot of days I’m going full speed ahead indoors and out and worn out at the end of the day and thinking I will fall asleep easily. Doesn’t happen. I don’t take Equate every night, it harmless, but it’s the idea of taking anything that I don’t like. Good luck CJ.

What? You are supposed to sleep all night long!!!!! Wouldn’t that be great. I too suffer the syndrome. I always wake up around 2 and toss and turn until time to get up. On occasion I do treat myself to a Benadryl to get a more relaxed night. I am just resistant to take anything on a regular basis – prescription or not. I hope you get a good night’s sleep tonight!

Benadryl or Tylenol PM do work wonders. If you don’t have any aches or pains that are disturbing your sleep just take a benadryl. You might want to quiet your mind with a little youga and meditation. A pretty piece of New Age Music helps this. Picture yourself in your favorite place relaxing and just breathing in the fresh air. Takes a little practice but it helps. As for homes away from homes I liked the first one you showed us. The second is lovely but seemed a little darker and heavier. In a small space lighter and less ornate makes things seem a little roomier. Good luck with your choices and your sleep issues.

Totally agree about the Dyson vacuums. I have had one of the animal ones for over six years. With three large dogs that come and go through the doggy door as they please, it keeps up with the sand and leaves that they track in.

Good luck on your transition to Louisiana!
