A sewing day!

I am going to get to sew today!  Would you believe, I called the Bernina dealer down in Houma, explained my dilemma, and they DELIVERED a brand new power cord to me here in Boutte?  $13 bucks.  They had to go to the airport in Kenner last night, and offered to bring the cord along with them.

I think I need to have some chocolates delivered to their store!

It’s finally sunny again, and supposedly the guy we hired to replace our RV awning is going to show up today… but then I’ve heard that three times already so I’m not holding my breath, but I’m stuck here all day on the chance that he makes an appearance, so a sew day it is!

I’d cut out the pieces to make another table runner just like the one underneath all my stuff here, only it will be three blocks instead of two, and the fabrics are slightly different.  A nice project for the RV… I got tired of making granny squares for the crocheted afghan, but I do need to finish that, I have so many darn UFO’s it’s not even funny.

I experimented with some buttermilk wheat rolls yesterday.  I ground a bag of wheat before leaving the house as supermarket whole wheat tastes yucky to me, I’m too spoiled with having fresh ground for years.  I didn’t knead these, so I wasn’t sure how the texture would be, but they seemed just fine.

Not quite as fluffy as normal, but I think next time I will start them early in the morning, so the dough has more time to develop.  What I did was mix the dough up with a spoon, then set a timer for 30 minutes, and folded the dough over a few times every 30 minutes (three times) and then let them rise.  Doing that for a longer period would work better.   Jim said they tasted great, I haven’t tried one yet, but will for lunch today!

was the awning damaged or just time for a new one? I would love one where you just press a button and presto it goes up or down

Damaged Karen. Earlier this summer we hired someone to wash and wax the RV. Our awning was getting pretty worn, but no tears yet. After he finished, it was in shreds so it’s time to replace it.

Enjoy your sewing day! I love to see the projects you come up with. You got excellent service on your machine cord!

My sister lives in Thibodaux, which is where I was raised, and have been to that very Bernina dealer. Patrick is the most awesome person when it comes to customer service that you will ever find. He has a reputation for always going to extra mile for people. That is something you don’t find very much any more.

  5. Yay for a new power cord! And I agree–the customer service was unbelievable, especially these days. So glad you’re sewing and I’m looking forward to seeing the new runner.

The rolls look soooo yummy! I’d love to make some, but I’ve lost ten pounds since New Years and I’m hoping for more to join those. But one of these days….

Way to go Chris! 10lbs down is where I’m at too… here’s wishing us both another 10lbs soon! Bread is definitely a diet killer, but oh my I do so adore the stuff!

Oh those rolls are so very tempting. But I feel better (my breathing) when I stay away from bread. Torture. I have always been a bread person.

Oh I hope you had the best sewing day yesterday. Also your crochet 2 strip of blocks looks great. Its going to be wonderful especially today when most projects are all done by machines however I’m not critical because I’m the greatest user and love sewing and quilting by machine. Its really nice to have such awesome service. How many owners offer that! Just a crucial time when really needed. Heat like that you will be glad to have the awning replaced. Good luck with all the projects. I am waiting for some border fabric. The shop sent one colour in error and they offered to replace it. I dd not expect that and so you do come across the kindest people.

I did Carol, I really enjoyed it! I’d planned on doing some more today but Jim said he might leave work around lunchtime, I’d rather spend time with my sweetie than sew!

I’m so glad your border fabric is being replaced, that’s great!

There’s a part of me that keeps thinking I might eventually learn to enjoy doing more hand work, like hand quilting. I’d really enjoy giving that a try.

  8. Awnings are always a bit troublesome, but they do add something to a design!

Hi CJ – Just was checking in on blogs, been a while since i’ve done that. Glad to see you are in the NOLA area. Yes, Deb and Patrick are the owners of the Bernina shop in Houma – they are wonderful people. How long you going to be around in these parts?

  10. CJ Tinkle says:

Hey Rick, great to hear from you! Deb and Patrick were WONDERFUL! How great to have such a wonderful dealer in the area, I was most impressed.

We were supposed to be finished here in December. Every week, it’s any day now that we’re leaving. LOL So, I honestly don’t know.

I read, enjoy and appreciate all the comments you leave for me! I try to reply to all the comments right here on the blog. Thanks so much for stopping by!
