Sewing withdrawals!
I'm staring to having sewing withdrawal… and here I've been thinking when Jim and I get back home, I'd start packing up my sewing rooms! I'd leave the longarm out of course, and maybe one sewing machine? But it's not really the machines, it's all the other stuff… I have endless spools of thread, bolts of fabric and batting, tools… that's the stuff I'm afraid if I pack it, I'll go crazy wanting to use it.
Of course if most of my sewing junk is packed away, then I'll obviously have much more free time to pack the rest of the house right? And finish tearing down the fence in the back yard… the list is endless, but we'd like to get the house on the market this year. I have enough sewing equipment to fill a house… and probably enough kitchen equipment to open a restaurant… neither will help the house sell.
Jim never did get the weekend off, nor switched over to day shift, but he does have tomorrow off… what's left of the day after he sleeps the morning away anyway. I'm thinking we might go check out a few of the other RV parks nearby, as I have a feeling we'll be working here on and off for the next few years, and it might be easier just to leave the RV parked down here. But NOT at this campground! The others aren't much better, and they stay mostly booked up all the time so we may not even find an opening, but I'd like to look. One of the nicer two both have slots open but they're too small to accomodate us.
Actually if we could find five or ten acres or so for sale, we'd consider purchasing it and parking the RV on it so I wouldn't go quite so crazy… I could garden at least, then just sell it when we leave. But I'm getting ahead of myself, I really have no idea of what we're doing once we leave here… if we ever leave here…
I made sourdough buttermilk waffles for Jim this weekend, and my goodness that was challenging for me to resist! I grilled pork sausage and bacon as well… have you ever tried grilling bacon directly on the grates, without a pan? Quite difficult. But very tasty!

I so understand what you are going through. I had to pack my sewing away last year when we sold our house in Belgium before our move to UK where we had bought a house a month before we sold so we didn’t suddenly stand without a roof over our head. the house here is half the size of the one in Belgium so that took a lot of sorting which I did before I staged the house for sale and it drove me up the wall at times when I really needed to sew to keep my sanity that it was all packed up but we were lucky and sold very quickly so in the end it was worth it. I spent almost a year without sewing, something I would not like to try again. Hope you get to go home soon. The uncertainty must be very frustrating.
Ugh Marianne, I can only imagine (and dread) the thought! I’m afraid once mine is packed up it will stay that way for at least two years.
Jim’s always contracted, so uncertainty is just a way of life for us. You learn to roll with the punches… and keep a large pantry just in case!
You need to look on it as not packing away everything – after all when you lived in the RV full time you did sewing. Surely you could pack enough thread and fabric in the camper to use and if you label every box as you store things away and then put all the sewing things in one area of your storage unit (workshop or whatever) you would know where things were if you needed more. Like batting in boxes labeled, thread in another, ect.

Sounds like you might be well into February before you are home.

Yes, I survived it in the RV for 4 years once before, but remember I was just learning to sew then, and I had very little stuff!
WOW CJ, I sure know sewing withdrawal, I finally unpacked my 830 after 8 months. I think I will have to have it updated but our move to the “newer house” was a disaster. I have a much smaller sewing room, number 1, the new carpet we had installed so my husband’s wheelchair would move easier failed and then black mold was discovered in the master bath. We have most of the carpet replaced at Mohawk’s expense. I am having the master bath remodeled sooner than I planned. They start jack-hammering the floor tomorrow so they can reposition drains. Hope to be done within a week but you know how that goes. I would love to sew but it will wait some more. I hope you get to go home soon. I’m sure Jim would like to be there to play with all his toys in his shop too.
Oh NO Bernice I am so sorry to hear that! What a horrible way to begin a life in your new home. I sure hope you will be happy there once it’s all complete, and can sew soon, 8 months is a long time!
We spent close to 3 weeks traveling and that was the longest I was ever away from sewing. It was hard–even though I enjoyed visiting, I couldn’t wait to get home and start sewing. I feel your pain!
Vicki 3 weeks would be no problem for me, as I’m lucky enough to have several different hobbies to keep myself entertained with… but a year or two without sewing… yowza! I know I wouldn’t like that!
CJ, are you in the New Orleans area? My husband was down there with our RV working Hurricane Isaac, If you are looking for a place to leave the RV I can get you the name of where he had ours. Its a storage lot that is gated and has RV hook ups. They charged $20 a night and there were lots of “workers” there. This place in the the Bell Chase area. I stayed there one night on our way home. I flew in to drive back. They have someone living on site and its very quiet.
Yes, we’re over on the West Bank side of New Orleans Kathy, but the Belle Chase area is way too far away from the nuclear plant where Jim is working. That’s the problem… all the RV parks in the area cater to workers (like us) and are really just, well ugh! This area is all chemical plants and the nuke plant.
Couldn’t do a two-year stint away from sewing. Even though, like you CJ, I have several other hobbies – my sewing is my lifeline. Even give me a sewing manual and I could be content for an evening. But 2 years – nope, no this girl!

I’m sitting here remembering your “Barbie” cases on your RV wall. LOL Hey – we’ll do just about anything! LOL

What a great memory you’ve got Cindy! Boy I had those puppies stuck up there so well, they never budged while bouncing down the highway! Maybe I’ll just make a whole lot of table runners… I love them anyway and they’re quite manageable in the RV.
