Surprise! We’ve been delayed again!

Maybe we'll get out of here later in the week? Definitely not tomorrow or Tuesday. But Jim is off tomorrow at least.

I woke up this morning with the compelling urge to make, of all things, a scrappy granny square afghan. Remember those? So seventies looking! But suddenly I think one would look absolutely charming! But I want it in lots of bright colors, which I don't have scraps of, so perhaps today I'll go do some shopping. I'll probably just make this one out of cheap yarn like RedHeart or Caron or something to that effect, mostly likely RedHeart because it's somewhat stiff and indestructible and granny squares really need the support.

I saw a picture of a sunburst granny square and really liked it, so that's probably what I'll do. I think I'm taken with the idea of having all those little miniature “projects” to work on, easy to take with me as I'll probably start packing up my sewing rooms at the house soon… leaving out just what I need to finish the monster quilt, then the machines too will probably go into storage.

I just can't decide… white or black background?

I'm down 8.8 lbs as of this morning! I've made a very sad discovery though. It seems bread may be a trigger food for me. Twice while here I had exactly TWO ounces of bread with a meal, and the following day after both times, I gained TWO entire pounds! It was gone again by the third day of eating Paleo/Primal, but my intent was only to eat this way until I'd lost all the weight I wanted, then gradually introduce (in limited amounts) my regular foods back into my daily meals.

I will definitely be testing that theory more once I've reached my goal, but no more until then! Set backs are not good motivation!

My husband’s Aunt crocheted a granny afghan with with many 3 x 3 inch squares. She gave the afghan resent to my Mother in law and it was in their home a long time. It was stunning with squares made of bright bright colours and a black background. They really are a wonderful keepsake

I haven’t made one in years Carol, but it suddenly sounds very fun! I’m having a ball surfing the web and Pinterest for ideas… I’ve run across some amazing borders on them!

Yes they are really wonderful. Like the mini hexagon quilt squares that are popular in the last year or so. Lots of ideas on Pinterest. I like the quilt related pins.Good luck CJ on your project if you decide on it.

Too funny, CJ. Lately I’ve been doing some serious Crochet Pinning on Pinterest. DD crochets absolutely beautiful! She inspires me! I love to crochet but choose sewing first. I also love the “old” cross stitch days. And remember, macrame? Yeah, loved that Era as well. Boy oh boy, am I aging myself.

Hahaha, yes I remember macrame well! I used to have the most GORGEOUS macrame hanging table. Wow… there’s something I hadn’t thought of in years. That might be fun to revive!

Congratulations on loosing 8.8 pounds. The diet you’re on doesn’t sound like much fun. Maybe stay off the scales but once a week. The body naturally shifts weight by several pounds. Eat like you should and do some walking. That should do the trick. Good luck.

    • CJ Tinkle says:

Thank you Kathy. I do walk daily. The diet isn’t so bad, but I’m trying to figure out what foods are my “trigger” foods, hence the daily weighing. Some foods don’t react well with my system, and I can eat an ounce of them and gain a pound!

  4. I see you have the Wheatbelly book. He was on Dr. Oz. it seems there’s trigger in today’s wheat. Even the heirloom varieties. I know bread is my trigger. I do seem to be able to eat the Ezekial bread without the gain. I can’t eat any simple carbs. Mine has to be multi-grain and I try to stay away from wheat as much as possible. I’m down 5 lbs just by doing that. I’m not a sweet craver so I’m good there. My weakness is salty. So, I’m filling that need with spices, and herbs. We had a bumper crop of pecans so I’m trying to snack on those. I used to eat to live when I was working long hours. Now, after watching these food networks, it seems I live to eat. Egad! I just had cable reduced to local channels so maybe that will help.

    • CJ Tinkle says:

Hahaha Hilary I’m right there with you, I live to eat. I don’t have a huge sweet tooth either, and if dried fruits and nuts weren’t so darn calorie intense, they’d completely satisfy my sweet tooth. I also prefer salty foods.

When I do want something sweet, I choose an apple or 2 pieces of Lindt 85% dark chocolate.

Cauliflower is also a trigger for me. I’m hoping when I introduce beans and legumes back into my diet, they won’t be, as I really enjoy them.

I love bread too and it does make me gain weight. I try to stick to whole grain and thin slices. Dieting is horrible, moderation seems to be the key but sticking to small meals is hard.
granny squares are making a comeback I think, I have seen several bloggers making them. You will get home sooner or later!

Karen, I could never exist on 1500 or so calories a day on a typical diet (which would included grains and starches), I get weak and lightheaded and I’m totally non functional. However, I can do it by eating mostly protein and veggies, I stay full on them. As long as I eat less per day than I burn off, I’ll continue to lose. My daily average calorie deficit for this month is -565, so I’m doing good so far!
