Fat quarter heaven!

Yesterday I made another hay run with my friend Dee, so we were gone all day long but it was a fun day! After we loaded her truck with hay, we stopped at an antique mall in the town of (I think) Keo. Lots of pecan orchards and cotton in that area.

The antique mall (Morris Antiques) was absolutely amazing, I couldn't believe such a place even existed in the area. There was a table there that seated twenty! It was forty feet long and ten or twelve feet wide, solid walnut!

On our way back through Little Rock, we stopped at Pinwheel Fabrics. I went a little nuts over fat quarters, they are such a weakness of mine!

I was pretty tired when I got home and didn't sleep well at all last night, I knew better than to help load that hay as I'm not really supposed to do stuff like that anymore with my back, and spent a miserable night thanks to my being stupid.

I think I've given up on finding a pre-made house plan, Jim and I are just going to have to design it ourselves. I've found several that I like, but when I go back and study them I realize they won't work. My idea of function just isn't the same as the average persons I guess.

Speaking of Jim, he's been delayed yet another week. :(

sorry Jim is delayed. And yes I thought you would end up designing your own home. Loading bales of hay into a truck is something that I know is way beyond the strength of my arms – hay is in high demand though and I know people are going all over the place to get it what with the drought of summer – we all hope next summer will be better even if we don’t have animals.
I haven’t been to Pinwheels in a long time and I’m not even sure if I could find it right now.

I’ve got that darn twist in my spine in my lower back and it’s so hard to keep it in line, doesn’t take much to knock it wacky and then it really hurts. Yes, definitely praying for rain this year! I saw on the news this morning that the Mississippi River traffic may have to close for some months due to low water.

I’d never be able to find Pinwheel without my GPS!

Too bad Jim’s return is being delayed again. Is there any chance he will be able to work at the local plant again? You guys do have a lot planned for when he gets home, though. How far is your land from your present home?

I love your fat quarters! I’m sure they could be sewn up before Jim arrives home next week. I will keep my fingers crossed for him and you!

Your fat quarters look wonderful, my kind of colors. We couldn’t have a premade planeither and ended up designing our own, so much is dependent upon lay of the land. So many times the designers get hung up on the character that they forget about how real people live. I hope Jim gets to join you soon.

Well it’s easy to see why designs are laid out the way they are… they look beautiful! But when you put yourself and your lifestyle into the picture, you realized how disfunctional they are.

Sweet FQs. As I was pawing through my fabs yesterday, I came across a sweet bundle.

We are in the process of building the house that we designed ourselves. We only have 1.5 acres, not lots of land like you and Jim. I looked at so many home plans online, there was always something not quite right. So I started with one that had a layout similar to what we wanted, pasted it into my graphics program, and started rearranging things. When we picked a contractor, he had a draftsman he worked with who turned our (line drawing) design into buildable plans and make sure it meets all the code requirements. The contractor had some great ideas that really added, too. It is very important to pick a contractor who understands your vision and needs. Ours is also good to tell us what something will cost and give is alternatives. But it is exciting seeing it come to life. We are about halfway through construction – closed in outside and ready to start working inside.

That sounds wonderful Kim, I know you must be so excited! The thought of designing our home ourselves terrifies me, but I know that’s what will probably have to happen. I hope yours turns out to be all you’ve dreamed of!
