Holy cow it’s cold outside!
I heavily starch all my fabrics before I cut and piece my quilts, and that’s a messy job best done outside, but I thought my fingers would freeze off this morning doing it! I decided that even though I need about four yards of four different fabrics for this quilt, I was only going to cut and starch a yard at a time, it’s just too darn cold to do bigger pieces!
They’re frozen solid! It should warm up some in a few hours.
Do you have a favorite ruler? I bought two of these a couple of years ago… I’m sorry to say I don’t recall where they came from, but this size is the best ever! I use these whenever I’m squaring a quilt, a block, or just need to cut something large out, they’re twenty-four inches square.
This morning I slathered some fresh sourdough bread with butter and gooseberry jam, my favorite! So good with a hot cup of coffee!
I think I might bake myself some cookies later on. I even took the butter out to warm up

Now that’s dedication, CJ! I have found a new ruler that I just love for cutting larger pieces – it’s an Omni-Edge 4 x 36″ ruler. I don’t know how I ever lived without it! LOVE your new house plans. Think of having a few stairs to get to your studio as a good thing – we all need that exercise as we get older! I love the wrap around porch – I can just see you and Jim rocking away out there on cool summer evenings!
Not dedication so much as a time crunch, LOL. Yes stairs are great for excercise, but I have a bad knee that likes to give out frequently, not so fun on the stairs!
I also have one of those huge-o rulers and use it all the time, setting triangles are so easy with it. Starched fabric handles so well, I can understand why you go the extra mile to do it.
It’s so worth it to starch I think Karen. Not only does it make your piecing and cutting more accurate, it’s a dream to quilt a starched top!
